Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with etnomatematics nuance by using traditional games to improve students problem solving ability. The population in this study was the fourth grade students of SDN Mandirancan, Kebasen, Banyumas Academic Year 2017/2018. Sampling was done by using simple random sampling. Data collection technique applied was problem solving ability tests, observation and documentation. This study was analyzed by using t-test. The results show that (1) the ability of problem solving using PBL models with etnomatematics nuanced by using traditional games has reached the classical completeness 75%, (2) the average scores of problem solving ability by using the model of PBL with etnomatematics nuanced by using traditional games was better than the average scores of problem solving ability by using the model of expository, (3) the average gap of problem solving ability by using the model of PBL with etnomatematics nuanced by using traditional games was better than the average gap of problem solving ability by using expository model. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that the model problem based learning with etnomatematics nuanced by using traditional games is effective in improving students' problem solving ability.

Abstract

This study has the purpose of testing the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the problem-solving ability of two-dimensional figures. This study applied experimental research with a pre-test – post-test control design model. The population of this study was all of the fourth-grade students of SDN in Batangpretepurposive sampling. The sample of this study was the fourth-grade students of SDN Karangtengah 01 and the fourth-grade students of SDN Kemiri 06. The instrument of data collection used was an essay test. The analysis technique used for analyzing the data was a statistical test of paired sample t-test. The results of this study indicated that the PBL model has effectively improved the students' problem-solving abilities. This is indicated by (1) The classical completeness of problem solving abilities of students in the experimental class using PBL models which reached up to 75%, (2) The average of problem-solving abilities of students in the experimental class with PBL models was more than the average of problem-solving ability of students in the control class using the expository learning models, sig α = 5%, with sig. (2-tailed) of 0.018 since 0.018 < 0.05. therefore, the result is significant, (3) the results of the increase in problem solving ability of the experimental class students using PBL models was indicated by the result of pre-test with the percentage of learning completeness of 51%. whereas, the rest of 49% students did not complete the achievement, then the result of post-test with the result of learning completeness at 80% and the rest of 20% students did not complete, sig α = 5%, with sig. (2-tailed) obtained a score of 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the PBL model is effective on problem-solving abilities of students in the fourth-grade elementary school at two dimension figures material.

Abstract

Background of this study is the low level of curiosity and conceptual understanding of fourth grade students of State Elementary Schools in Kendal Regency on mathematics subjects. The objectives of this study are (1) to know the effect of the character of curiosity towards of conceptual understanding obtained by students (2) to know the ability of students to understand fraction concepts after experiencing thematic-realistic learning. The method used was mixed method with sequential explanatory model. The sample in the research were all IV grade. While, the techniques of data analysis were t-test and z score test. The results of this study indicate that (1) there is a significant effect of the character of curiosity towards ability of mathematical conceptual understanding obtained by students (2) The implementation of thematic-realistic learning is able to significantly improve students' ability of mathematical conceptual understanding than the class that use conventional learning.

Abstract

In the PISA study, Indonesian students are still meet in solving questions focused on mathematical connections which is shown by the ability of students to use Mathematics that they learn to solve problems in everyday life. The research objectives were knowing the quality of mathematical connection skills and measuring the increase in mathematical connection ability after the model of ICARE social simulation was implemented. The type of research used is mixed methods with research designs concurrent embedded. The results of research on ICARE model learning through quality social simulation, showed the ability of mathematical connections has reached classical completeness more than 75% and students' mathematical connection ability in ICARE model learning through social simulation is higher than that of students with expository learning. Mathematical connection ability of students in the experimental class increased by 0.538 in the medium category, while students in the control class increased by 0.375 in the medium category.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the generative learning of quality in in creasing problem solving abilities, to test the effect of learning independence on problem solving abilities, and to define problem solving abilities in terms of learning independence. This research method is mixed methods with concurrent triangulation model. The population of this research were VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 35 Semarang in 2018/2019 academic year, and samples were taken by cluster random sampling. The technique collection of data used such as a questionnaire of learning independence, a test of problem solving skills, documentation, observation, and interviews. The data analysis technique used the average similarity test, the proportion test, the average similarity test (two-sample t test), and simple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that students have good problem solving skills because of the enthusiasm in mathematics, understanding concepts, and feeling mastered the material. The study also showed that the generative learning model was declared effective, by indicators namely the problem solving ability of students reaching KKM (Minimum Mastery Criteria), the generative model produced problem solving abilities and students learning independence better than PBL (Problem Bae Learning), and the problem solving abilities of students to the generative model that affected their learning independence.

Abstract

Creativity and self-confidence play important roles in learning mathematics. Treffinger learning model was believed to facilitate the strengthening of both aspects. This learning model theoretically will be more meaningful if it is supported by software that can help visualize the mathematics concept. That choice is the Geogerbra software. This research aimed to describe the mathematics creative thinking skills reviewed from self-confidence aspects of 7th grade students. The study was mixed-methods research with a sequential explanatory design. There were 30 students involved in this study. They were taken based on three self-confidence categories: high, moderate, and low level. The quantitative data collection technique used creative thinking test and the qualitative data collection techniques were questionnaire and interview. The findings shown that (1) the learning outcome by implementing Treffinger assisted by Geogebra was effective, (2) in terms of mathematics creative thinking skills process aspect, the students with high self-confidence could master all indicators well. Students with moderate self-confidence only could master three aspects. They were fluency, flexibility, and elaboration. The low self-confidence students only mastered fluency and elaboration aspects. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that Treffinger learning model could improve the students' mathematics creative thinking skills reviewed by their self-confidence.

Abstract

Mathematical understanding is one of the important goals in learning. Students are not just memorizing but are expected to understand the concept of the subject matter itself. In developing mathematical abilities, especially mathematical understanding, students must have self-confidence in their abilities to avoid anxiety and doubt. This study aims to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education model on the mathematical understanding and self-confidence of fourth grade students. This study uses a combination method (Mixed Method) Concurrent Embedded design. The results showed that there was an effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education learning model on the mathematical understanding and self-confidence of the students who were shown to have successfully completed the mathematical understanding of 25 out of 30 students. Meanwhile, students who got individual scores 70 or 83.33% of the proportion who achieved the above mastery at least were 75% classically. The average mathematical understanding using Realistic Mathematics Education learning model with an average result percentage of 82.00%. Students' self-confidence influences mathematical understanding by 43.5% and 56.5% is influenced by other factors. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the Realistic Mathematics Education model has a strong influence on students' mathematical understanding and self-confidence in elementary schools.
